Old Fireshed Gallery

The Old Fireshed Gallery was converted into a much-needed gallery in 2003, when the Rural Fire Service moved to their new fireshed. Since then it has been a popular and successful exhibition space for local artists, and some from further afield. A new exhibition is held every month. It is an artist - run venue, with the WVAC only requiring 10% of gross sales, and hence very popular.

ELENA MURGIA - Willoughby, NSW Title: Gio Price: $12,000 Material: Carrara marble - Statuarietto Dimensions: 40h x 20w x 32d cm I am the tenant of my body. I carve heads because the head is the room where I live - the breast my sexuality under my own control. I use marble as a metaphor of my rock-solid feminine identity.

AYAKO SAITO - Botany, NSW Title: Whispering Coral Price: $6,000 Material: Steel Dimensions: 25.5h x 33w x 26.5d cm

ALYSON HAYES - Gordon, NSW Title: Trace [1/3] Price: $6,400 total Material: Bone china, LED lighting, reusable silicone cable ties. Dimensions: 125h x 75w x 15d cm Paleobotany, the study of the lithified remains of life. Traces of organic matter used to unravel and reconstruct ancient ecological systems. My work is an imagined fossilised impression, illuminating this moment in time. A ‘forest’, shining light on the beauty and intricacy of nature but also alluding to its fragility. Individual Prices: 1. $1,200, 2. $1,300, 3. $1,500, 4. $1,300, 5. $1,100

MICHAEL LE GRAND - Hall, ACT Title: Aarhus Price: $5,000 Material: Painted steel Dimensions: 12h x 16w x 14d cm This sculpture was inspired by Sir Anthony Caro’s Double Tent (1987/1993), shown at Sculpture by the Sea, in Aarhus, Denmark in 2009. I responded to its horizontal orientation and the end-capping of the large disc element.

Although Covid -19 created quite a few challenges in 2020, we managed to hold 13 exhibitions, two of which were online. Sadly, ‘Paintings & Mosaics’ was cancelled after only a few days, due to lockdown.
